“The Summit built critical momentum for advanced nuclear and our global efforts to tackle climate change. The demand for clean energy is huge and the timeframe for decarbonization is short. This commitment of global leaders serves as a valuable starting point to double-down our efforts to design and implement scalable solutions that can be deployed by 2030,” stated Kirsty Gogan.

Co-chaired by the Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, the Nuclear Energy Summit was the highest-level meeting to date exclusively focused on the topic of nuclear energy. The Summit came in the wake of the historic inclusion of nuclear energy in the Global Stock take agreed at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) December 2023, which called for accelerating its deployment along with other low carbon energy sources.

Panels and discussions among Heads of State and Government of participating countries and experts will focus on how innovation is enhancing the competitiveness, usability, and sustainability of nuclear power as well as opportunities and challenges in establishing a level playing field for funding and financing nuclear power projects.

Terra Praxis is also a signatory to The NGO Declaration on the Future of Nuclear Energy, joining 20 NGOs from around the globe jointly calling for the efficient and responsible expansion of nuclear energy.

“We stand with our allies in advancing safe, secure, and efficient scaling of nuclear energy. With this consensus we can take on the real challenges of designing and implementing innovations at the speed and scale required to meet decarbonization targets,” said Eric Ingersoll. “We need to shift from bespoke nuclear ‘projects’ to ‘products’: manufactured reactors, licensed at the factory, and rapidly deployed, with predictable costs that make advanced nuclear cost-competitive and more attractive than burning fossil fuels.”
